Today I narrate Basil Rathbone's thoughts on working with John Barrymore on the feature film 'Romeo and Juliet', where the pair played Tybalt and Mercutio respectively. Barrymore, of course, was a Holmes himself, having played the role in the 1922 feature film 'Sherlock Holmes' (also titled 'Moriarty in some instances). With special thanks to James Hare for voicing Barrymore.

Today I narrate Basil Rathbone's thoughts on the first ever acting performance he ever gave. Sort of. Source: "In and Out of Character" - Basil Rathbone's autobiography. Today I narrate Douglas Wilmer's thoughts on how his supporting role in a James Bond film brought him more fame and acclaim than the entirety of his time playing Sherlock Holmes. These words were written by Douglas Wilmer in his autobiography "Stage Whispers". Today I narrate Basil Rathbone's thoughts on the film producer Irving Thalburg, who was behind many notable films including 1935's Romeo and Juliet. With special thanks to Thea Solone for voicing the Journalist. Today I narrate Ian Richardson's thoughts on growing up watching Sherlock Holmes films, and also what he thought of Basil Rathbone in the role. Richardson, of course, would go on to play the role himself in 2 feature films. He would also wind up playing Dr. Joseph Bell in the TV Series 'Murder Rooms'. Bell was a tutor to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and, many feel, was the blue print Doyle would end up basing Sherlock Holmes on. These words were written as part of the forward for David Stuart Davies' book "Starring Sherlock Holmes" Today we narrate Ronald Howard and Howard Marion Crawford's thoughts on their takes of Holmes and Watson in the 1954-1955 TV Series. These were originally released as single videos, but have now been combined with additional video/imagery added in. With special thanks to Gene Foad for voicing Howard M. Crawford Today I narrate Jeremy Brett's thoughts on the character of Sherlock Holmes after having played him for 10 years. This is taken from an interview he did with David Stuart Davies. I am back with a lot more musings from the classic Sherlock Holmes Actors. Let us kick things off with narrating Basil Rathbone's thoughts on his wife leaving the film business and their relationship in general. With Sarah Kate Ford as the voice of Ouida Rathbone nee Bergère. Today I narrate Douglas Wilmer's thoughts on the terrible 1st draft of the 1965 TV episode 'The Red Headed League', part of the BBC Sherlock Holmes series. With J. D Kelly as the voice of the producer. The production of the 1960s BBC series of Sherlock Holmes was notoriously problematic, with both Douglas Wilmer and Peter Cushing being openly critical of it. Often, Wilmer had to rewrite scripts himself to bring them up to scratch. Today I narrate his thoughts on what led to him having to do this for the episode 'The Devil's Foot'. With Parker Hanson as the voice of the stressed writer. |
