Today we have a brand new essay in the "Diogenes Club Library" by Thomas Wheeler. "The London of Sherlock Holmes" was a presentation by Thomas at the 2014 meeting of the Southern Sherlockians in Chattanooga. Thomas has very graciously given his permission to have the accompanying notes on the website. While it is not a word for word recap, it is none the less informative and entertaining. It also contains links to a variety of maps and sites to further expand his subject points. Well worth a read for anyone with an interest in the geographic locations of Sherlock Holmes world. Today we have a brand new essay in "The Diogenes Club Library" by the illustrious Howard Ostrom. Did you know that in Russia, Sherlock Holmes is a favorite literary character for children and adults alike. This is largely thanks to the reruns of a television series starring Visaly Livanov as Sherlock Holmes and Vitaly Solomin as Dr. Watson, but they are far from the only Russian incarnation of the Detective and Doctor duo. This essay examines the full history of Watson and Holmes actors of the former Soviet state. You can download the essay below.
Today we have the 2nd and final part of Howard Ostroms essay series "Watson! The Envelope Please!" which examines award winning actors who have taken on the role of Sherlock Holmes or Doctor Watson. And remember for more essays be sure to check out the rest of the Diogenes Club Library.
Did you enjoy the series? Personally I think Howard Ostrom deserves an award for writing all these, but until such a time why not let him know your thoughts via Twitter @HowardOstrom or using the contact form on the website. Howard Ostrom recently took a trip to his mind palace. He confesses the only thing he seemed to find there were trivial facts on actors who have portrayed Sherlock Holmes and/or Dr. Watson. But lets face it, we love him for it. And it was during his latest visit he came across a new room which was overflowing with facts on which ‘Oscar’ winning performers have played Sherlock Holmes or Dr. Watson. Howard decided it was about time he showed some guests into this intriguing new room. And as a visitor to No Place Like Holmes you are cordially invited! Just download the file below and you can come right in!
