Ross K Reviews "The Lighter Side Of Sherlock Holmes"

Today I review "The Lighter Side Of Sherlock Holmes" by the late Norman Schatell put together by his son Glenn Schatell.  A cartoon Holmes book with over 300 drawings within.  Norman was a widely respected Holmesian artist particularly in the 1970's who sadly died before he was able to publish his works into a book although his works had appeared in magazines and journals to critical acclaim within the Holmesian community.

Thankfully the artwork has not been lost to the new age Holmesian world though after all thanks to Glenns efforts.

That's right! Following yesterdays inclusion of funny man Dave Allen  "The Howard Ostrom Holmes and Watson Autograph" Collection is now home to the signature of Dennis Allen too.

Dennis Allen played Sherlock Holmes alongside Ernest Borgnine as Dr.Watson
 in a television sketch on "Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In" . (1973)

While Dennis's career in the acting world petered out shortly after his long running parcticipation in the Laugh in, Ernest Borgnine won an Oscar in 1955 for Best Actor in  "Marty" as well as starring in the TV show "McHale's Navy".

If you have are to young to remember any of that and have never seen him you may just have heard him though, up until his death, Borgnine was the voice of Mermaid Man on  the popular cartoon "SpongeBob SquarePants" .

Today we have a new humorous Holmes Autographed photo in the Television section of the Howard Ostrom Collection in the form of comedic actor Dave Allen who portrayed Sherlock Holmes alongside Michael Sharvell-Martin in a sketch entitled "Watsons Poisoned Posterior" as part of "Dave Allen At Large" (1971-1976).

The below link will take you to sketch and start at the correct place for those interested in checking it out, I personally found it very amusing indeed.

At last, part 2 of Series 4 Episode One "Dawn Of The Red" is now released. I am very sorry for the long delay there has been on this one, I have had repeat problems with terrible connections to uploading .

But back to business - In the second part Sherlock Holmes becomes the reluctant recipient of a new case, meanwhile The Red Headed League attempt to trick their way into the Bruce Stock Academy in their bid to reach the treasure they seek of the store room that could very well uncover Sherlock Holmes secret past.

Remember for best quality viewing and to watch as it is supposed to look change the video to 1080HD by clicking the cog button located on the bottom right of the video.

To make up for the delay Part 3 will follow tomorrow.
